Translation
“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi (throne) extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”
 Reference: Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)

Do you ever feel the need for a shield that protects, empowers, and calms you? For many Muslims, Ayatul Kursi offers just that—a divine source of comfort and protection. Known as “The Throne Verse” and found in Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2, Verse 255), Ayatul Kursi is considered one of the most powerful verses in the Quran. Whether you’re seeking peace, protection, or a closer connection with Allah, this verse is treasured for its profound impact.

In this article, I’ll delve deep into Ayatul Kursi’s meaning, its incredible benefits, and how it can transform your life. Together, let’s uncover why this verse holds a special place in the hearts of millions and how you can make it a meaningful part of your daily life.

As always I seek refuge in Allah Almighty from all kinds of harm and pray that He makes my work easy. I also pray that He considers this effort a means of salvation for us in this world and the hereafter. Whatever is good in my writing is entirely a blessing from Allah Almighty, and any faults are due to Satan (Devil) and my own lack of knowledge. JazakAllah. (Thank you).

What is Ayatul Kursi?

Ayatul Kursi is a verse from Surah Al-Baqarah, often referred to as the most exalted verse in the Quran due to its unmatched significance and power. In Arabic, Ayat means “verse,” and Kursi translates to “throne,” symbolizing Allah’s authority, sovereignty, and knowledge.

This verse highlights Allah’s unparalleled power over all creation and emphasizes His role as the sole guardian and sustainer of the universe. It’s a reminder that Allah is ever-watchful, aware, and above all limitations, a comfort for those of us navigating life’s challenges.

The Meaning of Ayatul Kursi

Let’s go deeper into each part of Ayatul Kursi to fully appreciate its spiritual depth.

  1. “Allah! There is no god but He, the Living, the Self-Subsisting, Eternal.”
This opening emphasizes the oneness of Allah (Tawheed), a core belief in Islam. Here, Allah declares that He is the only deity worthy of worship, embodying life and self-sustenance.

  2. “Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him.”
Allah’s vigilance is absolute—He is never distracted or inattentive. Unlike us, who need rest, Allah’s care and supervision are constant, offering a sense of security and peace.

  3. “To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth.”
This part reminds us that every aspect of creation is under Allah’s control. Knowing this, I find it easier to let go of worry and trust in His plan.

  4. “Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His permission?”
Intercession is only possible by Allah’s will, affirming His supreme authority. This brings a sense of humility; everything is ultimately in Allah’s hands.

  5. “He knows what is before them and what is behind them.”
Allah’s knowledge is all-encompassing—He knows our past, present, and future. Personally, this makes me feel seen and understood on a profound level.

  6. “His Kursi (throne) extends over the heavens and the earth.”
Allah’s throne is beyond our comprehension, covering all of existence. This line reinforces His boundless power and reach.

  7. “And He is never weary of preserving them.”
Allah tirelessly cares for the entire creation. Knowing this, I feel a renewed sense of gratitude and reliance on Him.

  8. “And He is the Most High, the Supreme.”
Allah’s ultimate authority and grandeur are beautifully highlighted here, reminding us of His greatness.

Story about Ayatul Kursi

Now I will provide you a very famous story about Ayatul Kursi. Which is Narrated Abu Huraira:

  • Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) deputed me to keep Sadaqat (al-Fitr) of Ramadan. A comer came and started taking handfuls of the foodstuff (of the Sadaqa) (stealthily). I took hold of him and said, “By Allah, I will take you to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) .” He said, “I am needy and have many dependents, and I am in great need.” I released him, and in the morning Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) asked me, “What did your prisoner do yesterday?” I said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! The person complained of being needy and of having many dependents, so, I pitied him and let him go.” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Indeed, he told you a lie and he will be coming again.” I believed that he would show up again as Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) had told me that he would return. So, I waited for him watchfully. When he (showed up and) started stealing handfuls of foodstuff, I caught hold of him again and said, “I will definitely take you to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ). He said, “Leave me, for I am very needy and have many dependents. I promise I will not come back again.” I pitied him and let him go. In the morning Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) asked me, “What did your prisoner do.” I replied, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! He complained of his great need and of too many dependents, so I took pity on him and set him free.” Allah’s Apostle said, “Verily, he told you a lie and he will return.” I waited for him attentively for the third time, and when he (came and) started stealing handfuls of the foodstuff, I caught hold of him and said, “I will surely take you to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as it is the third time you promise not to return, yet you break your promise and come.” He said, “(Forgive me and) I will teach you some words with which Allah will benefit you.” I asked, “What are they?” He replied, “Whenever you go to bed, recite “Ayat-al-Kursi”– ‘Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-l-Haiy-ul Qaiyum’ till you finish the whole verse. (If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no satan will come near you till morning. ” So, I released him. In the morning, Allah’s Apostle asked, “What did your prisoner do yesterday?” I replied, “He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah will benefit me, so I let him go.” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) asked, “What are they?” I replied, “He said to me, ‘Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi from the beginning to the end —- Allahu la ilaha illa huwa-lHaiy-ul-Qaiyum—-.’ He further said to me, ‘(If you do so), Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you, and no satan will come near you till morning.’ (Abu Huraira or another sub-narrator) added that they (the companions) were very keen to do good deeds. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He really spoke the truth, although he is an absolute liar. Do you know whom you were talking to, these three nights, O Abu Huraira?” Abu Huraira said, “No.” He said, “It was Satan.”
