اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِيْ قَلْبِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ لِسَانِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ سَمْعِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ بَصَرِي نُوْرًا، وَمِنْ فَوْقِيْ نُوْرًا، وَمِنْ تَحْتِيْ نُوْرًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينِيْ نُوْرًا، وَعَنْ شِمَالِيْ نُوْرًا، وَمِنْ أَمَامِيْ نُوْرًا، وَمِنْ خَلْفِيْ نُوْرًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِيْ نَفْسِيْ نُوْرًا، وَأَعْظِمْ لِيْ نُوْرًا، وَعَظِّمْ لِيْ نُوْرًا، وَاجْعَلْ لِيْ نُوْرًا، وَاجْعَلْنِيْ نُوْرًا، اَللّٰهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي نُوْرًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِيْ عَصَبِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ لَحْمِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ دَمِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ شَعْرِيْ نُوْرًا، وَفِيْ بَشَرِيْ نُوْرًا- اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْ لِيْ نُوْرًا فِيْ قَبْرِي… وَنُوْرًا فِيْ عِظَامِيْ- وَزِدْنِيْ نُوْرًا، وَزِدْنِيْ نُوْرًا، وَزِدْنِيْ نُوْرًا- وَهَبْ لِيْ نُوْرًا عَلَى نُوْرٍ
Transliteration
Allahumma-j‘al fī qalbī nūran, wa fī lisānī nūran, wa fī sam‘ī nūran, wa fī baṣarī nūran, wa min fawqī nūran, wa min taḥtī nūran, wa ‘an yamīnī nūran, wa ‘an shimālī nūran, wa min amāmī nūran, wa min khalfī nūran, waj‘al fī nafsī nūran, wa a‘ẓim lī nūran, wa ‘aẓẓim lī nūran, waj‘al lī nūran, waj‘alnī nūran; Allahumma a‘ṭinī nūran, waj‘al fī ‘aṣabī nūran, wa fī laḥmī nūran, wa fī damī nūran, wa fī sha‘rī nūran, wa fī basharī nūran. Allahumma-j‘al lī nūran fī qabrī… wa nūran fī ‘iẓāmī. Wa zidnī nūran, wa zidnī nūran, wa zidnī nūran. Wa hab lī nūran ‘alā nūr.
Translation
O Allah! Place light (or radiance) in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light above me, light beneath me, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me, light behind me, and place light within my soul. Magnify the light for me, increase the light for me, designate light for me, and make me a source of light. O Allah! Grant me light, place light in my nerves, in my flesh, in my blood, in my hair, and in my skin.[¹] O Allah! Place light in my grave, and light in my bones.[²] Increase me in light, increase me in light, increase me in light.[³] Grant me light upon light.[⁴]

Dua for Entering the Mosque
Arabic
أَعُوذُ بِاللّٰهِ الْعَظِيمِ، وَبِوَجْهِهِ الْكَرِيمِ، وَسُلْطَانِهِ الْقَدِيمِ، مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ- بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ- وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللّٰهِ-اَللّٰهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
Transliteration
A‘oodhu billaahil-‘Adheem, wa bi-Wajhihil-Kareem, wa Sultaanihil-qadeem, minash Shaytaanir rajeem- Bismillaahi- Wassalaatu Wassalaamu ‘alaa Rasoolillaahi- Allaahum-maftah lee abwaaba rahmatika.
Translation
I seek refuge in Almighty Allah, by His Noble Face, by His primordial power, from Satan the outcast.[¹] In the Name of Allah.[²] And blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.[³] O Allah, open before me the doors of Your mercy.[⁴]

Dua for leaving the mosque
Leave with your left foot first. [1]

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ، اَللّٰهُمَّ اعْصِمْنِيْ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ
Transliteration
Bismillaahi wassalaatu wassalaamu ‘alaa Rasoolillaahi, Allaahumma ‘innee ‘as’aluka min fadhlika, Allaahumma’simnee minash-Shaytaanir-rajeem.
Translation
In the Name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask for Your favor, O Allah, protect me from Satan the outcast.

Transliteration
Bismillāh walajnā wa bismillāh kharajnā wa `ala Allāh rabbinā tawakkalnā
Translation
In the name of Allah we enter, and in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we place our trust.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When a man goes into his house, he should say: “O Allah! I ask You for good both when entering and when going out; in the name of Allah we have entered, and in the name of Allah we have gone out, and in Allah our Lord do we trust.” He should then greet his family.

Dua for Leaving the Home (1)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ
Transliteration
Bismillāhi tawakkaltu ‘alā Allāh, lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-Allāh.
Translation
In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When a man goes out of his house and says: “In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah,” the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ أَوْ أُضَلَّ أَوْ أَزِلَّ أَوْ أُزَلَّ أَوْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ أَوْ أَجْهَلَ أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَىَّ
Transliteration
Allāhumma innī a’ūdhu bika an aḍilla aw uḍalla aw azilla aw uzalla aw aẓlima aw uẓlama aw ajhala aw yujhala ‘alayya.
Translation
O Allah! I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, or slip or made to slip, or cause injustice, or suffer injustice, or do wrong, or have wrong done to me.

Dua for Entering a Home After a Long Absence
Arabic
رَبِّ أَنزِلْنِي مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
Transliteration
Rabbi anzilnī munzalan mubārakan wa anta khayru al-munzilīn
Translation
My Lord, cause me to land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best of those who bring to land.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Transliteration
Lā ilāha illā Allāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-ḥamdu yuḥyī wa yumītu wa huwa ḥayy lā yamūtu, biyadihi al-khayru wa huwa `alā kulli shay’in qadīr
Translation
There is no deity but Allah, alone without partner. His is the dominion, His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die. In His Hand is all good, and He has power over all things.

the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever enters the marketplace and says: ‘There is none worthy of worship except Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs the dominion, and to Him is all the praise, He gives life and causes death, He is Living and does not die, in His Hand is the good, and He has power over all things, Allah shall record a million good deeds for him, wipe a million evil deeds away from him, and raise a million ranks for him.”

Dua for Entering the Market (2)
Arabic
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَخَيْرِ أَهْلِهَا وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا وَشَرِّ أَهْلِهَا
Transliteration
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka min khayrihā wa khayri ahlihā, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihā wa sharri ahlihā.
Translation
O Allah, I ask You for the good of this place and the good of its people, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this place and the evil of its people.

Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to stand at the entrance of the market and recite this Du’a before entering.

Dua for entering a town or village

اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَظْلَلْنَ، وَرَبَّ الْأَرَضِيْنَ السَّبْعِ وَمَا أَقْلَلْنَ، وَرَبَّ الشَّيَاطِيْنِ وَمَا أَضْلَلْنَ، وَرَبَّ الرِّيَاحِ وَمَا ذَرَيْنَ، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هٰذِهِ الْقَرْيَةِ، وَخَيْرَ أَهْلِهَا، وَخَيْرَ مَا فِيْهَا، وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، وَشَرِّ أَهْلِهَا، وَشَرِّ مَا فِيْهَا
Transliteration
Allaahumma Rabbas-samaawaatis-sab’i wa maa ‘adhlalna, wa Rabbal-‘aradheenas-sab’i wa maa ‘aqlalna, wa Rabbash-shayaateeni wa maa ‘adhlalna, wa Rabbar-riyaahi wa maa tharayna. ‘As’aluka khayra haathihil-qaryati wa khayra ‘ahlihaa, wa khayra maafeehaa, wa ‘a’oothu bika min sharrihaa, wa sharri ‘ahlihaa, wa shard maa feehaa.
Translation
O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all they overshadow, Lord of the seven worlds and all they uphold, Lord of the devils and all they lead astray, Lord of the winds and all they scatter. I ask You for the goodness of this town and for the goodness of its people, and for the goodness it contains. I seek refuge in You from its evil, from the evil of its people and from the evil it contains.

Al-Hakim who graded it authentic and Ath-Tfaahabi agreed 2/100, and Ibn As-Sunni (no. 524). Al-Hafidh graded it good in his checking of Al-‘Athkdr 5/154. Ibn Baz said in Tuhfatul-‘Akhydr p. 37, that An-Nasa’i recorded it with a good chain of narration.
Dua for Protection in a New Place
Arabic
أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Transliteration
A’ūdhu bikalimāti Allāh at-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.
Translation
I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of that He created.
Reference: Khaula bint Hakim Sulamiyya reported:
I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you stays at a place, he should say:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of that He created.” Nothing would then do him any harm until he moves from that place. Abu Huraira reported that a person came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and said:” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) , I was stung by a scorpion during the night. Thereupon he said: Had you recited these words in the evening:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He created,” it would not have done any harm to you.

Translation
O Allah, I seek refuge with You from all evil and evil-doers.

Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went to answer the call of nature, he used to say, “Allah-umma inni a`udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba’ith i.e. O Allah, I seek Refuge with You from all offensive and wicked things (evil deeds and evil spirits).

Dua for Entering the Graveyard

السَّلاَمُ عَلَى أَهْلِ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَيَرْحَمُ اللَّهُ الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنَّا وَالْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَلاَحِقُونَ
Transliteration
Assalāmu ‘alā ahlid-diyāri minal-mu’minīna wal-muslimīn, wa yarḥamullāhul-mustaqdimīna minnā wal-musta’khirīn, wa innā in shā’ Allāhu bikum la-lāḥiqūn.
Translation
Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, God willing, join you.
Reference: Muhammad b. Qais said (to the people):
Should I not narrate to you (a hadith of the Prophet) on my authority and on the authority of my mother? We thought that he meant the mother who had given him birth. He (Muhammad b. Qais) then reported that it was ‘A’isha who had narrated this: Should I not narrate to you about myself and about the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)? We said: Yes. She said: When it was my turn for Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) to spend the night with me, he turned his side, put on his mantle and took off his shoes and placed them near his feet, and spread the corner of his shawl on his bed and then lay down till he thought that I had gone to sleep. He took hold of his mantle slowly and put on the shoes slowly, and opened the door and went out and then closed it lightly. I covered my head, put on my veil and tightened my waist wrapper, and then went out following his steps till he reached Baqi’. He stood there and he stood for a long time. He then lifted his hands three times, and then returned and I also returned. He hastened his steps and I also hastened my steps. He ran and I too ran. He came (to the house) and I also came (to the house). I, however, preceded him and I entered (the house), and as I lay down in the bed, he (the Prophet) entered the (house), and said: Why is it, O ‘A’isha, that you are out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the darkness (of your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He gave me a nudge on the chest which I felt, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Messenger would deal unjustly with you? She said: Whatsoever the people conceal, Allah will know it. He said: Gabriel came to me when you saw me. He called me and he concealed it from you. I responded to his call, but I too concealed it from you (for he did not come to you), as you were not fully dressed. I thought that you had gone to sleep, and I did not like to awaken you, fearing that you may be frightened. He (Gabriel) said: Your Lord has commanded you to go to the inhabitants of Baqi’ (to those lying in the graves) and beg pardon for them. I said: Messenger of Allah, how should I pray for them (How should I beg forgiveness for them)? He said: Say, Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, God willing, join you.
