A Brief Overview of the Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye
The evil eye (Ayn) is a real and harmful force that can affect individuals, relationships, and even material possessions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ confirmed its reality, saying:
“The evil eye is real. If anything were to overtake the divine decree, it would be the evil eye.” (Sahih Muslim, 2188). That’s why reciting the Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye is really important.
In our daily lives, envy, jealousy, and unseen negative energies can have a significant impact on our well-being. Whether it’s personal achievements, good health, or even happiness, people may unknowingly or intentionally cast an envious glance that can lead to difficulties. However, Islam provides us with powerful supplications for protection. Among the most effective are duas taught by the Prophet ﷺ himself.
Benefits of This Dua for Protection from the evil eye
- Divine Safeguard: This supplication directly seeks Allah’s refuge, ensuring protection from both seen and unseen harm.
- Shield Against the Evil Eye: Since the evil eye can lead to physical and emotional distress, reciting this dua regularly acts as a powerful defense.
- Protection from Harmful Creatures: The phrase “min kulli shayṭānin wa hāmmatin” includes safety from harmful creatures like snakes, scorpions, and other venomous beings.
- Spiritual and Mental Peace: This dua brings a sense of tranquility, knowing that Allah’s words are the ultimate protection against negativity.
- Applicable for Everyone: Whether for children, loved ones, or even oneself, this dua serves as a universal protection against all forms of harm.
When Should You Recite This Dua?
- Morning and Evening: The Prophet ﷺ recommended reciting Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas three times in the morning and evening for protection.
- Before Sleeping: Reciting these Surahs before sleeping and blowing over oneself is a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
- After Salah: Incorporating these duas after every prayer strengthens one’s protection throughout the day.
- For Children: Parents should recite these supplications over their children, just as the Prophet ﷺ did for Hasan and Husayn (رضي الله عنهما).
- During Special Occasions: When attending gatherings, events, or places with a high chance of envy, reciting these duas adds an extra layer of protection.
My Personal Reflection on This Dua
The more I reflect on these supplications, the more I realize their immense wisdom and power. In a world where social media constantly exposes us to envy and comparisons, these duas serve as a spiritual shield. There were times in my life when I felt unexplained fatigue, distress, or sudden losses, and I later realized it could have been due to the evil eye.
Since making these duas a part of my daily routine, I’ve noticed a significant difference in my mental and emotional well-being. They provide a sense of peace, knowing that Allah’s protection is always with me. Whenever I recite them, I feel as though I am placing my trust entirely in Allah, the Most Powerful.

Important note
In Islam, a single dua often holds deep, multi-faceted meanings and can address various aspects of life. That’s why you might notice some repetition in my writing—it’s because many duas overlap in the guidance and mercy they bring into our lives. I believe in reinforcing these beautiful lessons as much as possible because their impact is truly profound. So, if it feels like I’m repeating myself, know that it’s with the intention of sharing these precious reminders in every way I can. Thank you for understanding and being part of this journey with me!
As always I seek refuge in Allah Almighty from all kinds of harm and pray that He makes my work easy. I also pray that He considers this effort a means of salvation for us in this world and the hereafter. Whatever is good in my writing is entirely a blessing from Allah Almighty, and any faults are due to Satan (Devil) and my own lack of knowledge. JazakAllah. (Thank you).
