Arabic

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ

Transliteration
Bismillāhi tawakkaltu ‘alā Allāh, lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā bi-Allāh.
Translation
In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah.
Reference: Narrated Anas ibn Malik:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: When a man goes out of his house and says: “In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah; there is no might and no power but in Allah,” the following will be said to him at that time: “You are guided, defended and protected.” The devils will go far from him and another devil will say: How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?

‏اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ أَوْ أُضَلَّ أَوْ أَزِلَّ أَوْ أُزَلَّ أَوْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ أَوْ أَجْهَلَ أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَىَّ

Transliteration
Allāhumma innī a’ūdhu bika an aḍilla aw uḍalla aw azilla aw uzalla aw aẓlima aw uẓlama aw ajhala aw yujhala ‘alayya.
Translation
O Allah! I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, or slip or made to slip, or cause injustice, or suffer injustice, or do wrong, or have wrong done to me.
Reference: Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Mu’minin:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never went out of my house without raising his eye to the sky and saying: “O Allah! I seek refuge in You lest I stray or be led astray, or slip or made to slip, or cause injustice, or suffer injustice, or do wrong, or have wrong done to me.”

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ، سُبْحَانَكَ اللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِيْ فَاغْفِرْ لِيْ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Transliteration
Bismillāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh, subḥāna alladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn. Alḥamdu lillāh, alḥamdu lillāh, alḥamdu lillāh, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, subḥānaka allāhumma innī ẓalamtu nafsī faghfir lī, fa-innahu lā yaghfiru adh-dhunūba illā ant.
Translation
In the name of Allah.” Then when he sat on its back, he said: “Praise be to Allah.” He then said: “Glory be to Him Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength, and to our Lord do we return.” He then said: “Praise be to Allah (thrice); Allah is Most Great (thrice): glory be to You, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for only You forgivest sins.
Reference: Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib:
Ali ibn Rabi’ah said: I was present with Ali while a beast was brought to him to ride. When he put his foot in the stirrup, he said: “In the name of Allah.” Then when he sat on its back, he said: “Praise be to Allah.” He then said: “Glory be to Him Who has made this subservient to us, for we had not the strength, and to our Lord do we return.” He then said: “Praise be to Allah (thrice); Allah is Most Great (thrice): glory be to You, I have wronged myself, so forgive me, for only You forgivest sins.” He then laughed. He was asked: At what did you laugh? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do as I have done, and laugh after that. I asked: Messenger of Allah , at what are you laughing? He replied: Your Lord, Most High, is pleased with His servant when he says: “Forgive me my sins.” He know that no one forgives sins except Him.

Dua to recite while Getting on a Watercraft

Arabic

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ مَ‍‍جْؔرٖىهَا وَمُرْسٰىهَا ؕ اِنَّ رَبِّيْ لَغَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ

Transliteration
Bismillahi majraha wa mursaaha, inna rabbi laghafoorur raheem.
Translation
With the name of Allah it sails and anchors. Surely, my Lord is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful.

Dua to recite while Getting down from a Watercraft

Arabic

 رَّبِّ اَنْزِلْنِيْ مُنْزَلًا مُّبٰرَكًا وَّاَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِيْنَ

Transliteration
Rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubārakan wa anta khayrul-munzileen.
Translation
‘My Lord, make me land a blessed landing, and You are the best of those who bring (someone) to land’.

Dua for starting a travel

Three times say:

Arabic

اَللّٰهُ أَكْبَر

Transliteration
Alla-hu Akbar
Translation
Allah is the Greatest

Then say:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِيْ سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِيْنَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُوْنَ –اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِيْ سَفَرِنَا هٰذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى، اَللّٰهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هٰذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ، اَللّٰهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالْخَلِيْفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ –اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ وَعْثَاءِ السَّفَرِ، وَكَآبَةِ الْمَنْظَرِ، وَسُوْءِ الْمُنْقَلَبِ فِي الْمَالِ وَالْأَهْلِ

Transliteration
Subha-nallazī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrīnīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn. Alla-humma innā nas’aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wa al-taqwā, wa min al-‘amali mā tarda. Alla-humma hawwin ‘alaynā safaranā hādhā wa t’wi ‘annā bu‘dahu. Alla-humma anta al-sāhibu fi al-safari wa al-khalīfatu fi al-ahli. Alla-humma innī a‘ūdhu bika min wa‘thā’i al-safari wa ka’ābati al-manthar, wa sū’i al-munqalabi fī al-māli wa al-ahli
Translation
Glory to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could not have done it by ourselves. And surely, to our Lord, we must return. O Allah! We ask You in this journey for righteousness and piety, and for actions that please You. O Allah! Make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance for us. O Allah! You are the Companion during the journey and the Protector of the family. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, and from having a distressing sight, and from an ill return in wealth and family.

And the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say this (above mentioned Du’a) when returning from a journey, and he would add:

آيِبُوْنَ، تَائِبُوْنَ، عَابِدُوْنَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُوْنَ

Transliteration
Ā’ibūna tā’ibūna ‘ābidūna, li rabbina hāmidūn
Translation
We return, repent, worship, and praise our Lord.
Reference: Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) reported that whenever Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he glorified Allah (uttered Allah-o-Akbar) thrice, and then said:
Hallowed is He Who subdued for us this (ride) and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use It as a ride, and we are going to return to our Lord. O Allah, we seek virtue and piety from You in this journey of ours and the act which pleaseth You. O Allah, lighten this journey of ours, and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, You are (our) companion during the journey, and guardian of (our) family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from hardships of the journey, gloominess of the sights, and finding of evil changes in property and family on return. And he (the Prophet) uttered (these words), and made this addition to them: We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord. and praising Him.

Transliteration

Translation
In the name of Allah.
Reference: Abu al-Malih reported on the authority of a man :
I was riding on a mount behind the prophet (ﷺ). It stumbled. Thereupon I said: May the devil perish! He said: do not say; may the devil perish! For you say that, he will swell so much so that he will be like a house, and say: by my power. But say: in the name of Allah; for when you say that, he will diminish so much so that he will be like a fly.

Dua of the Traveller for the Resident

Arabic

‏أَسْتَوْدِعُكَ اللَّهَ الَّذِي لاَ تَضِيعُ وَدَائِعُهُ

Transliteration
Astawdi’uka Allāh alladhī lā taḍī’u wadā’i’uhu.
Translation
I command you to Allah’s keeping, Whose trust is never lost.
 Reference: It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave me a send-off and said: ‘I command you to Allah’s keeping, Whose trust is never lost.’”

Dua of the Resident for the Traveller (1)

Arabic

‏أَسْتَوْدِعُ اللَّهَ دِينَكَ وَأَمَانَتَكَ وَخَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِكَ

Transliteration
Astawdi`ullāha dīnaka wa amānataka wa khawātīma `amalik.
Translation
I entrust to Allah your religion, and your trusts, and the last of your deeds.
Reference: Salim narrated that :
when he intended to undertake a journey, Ibn `Umar used to say to a person to “Come close to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to bid us farewell.” Then he would say: “I entrust to Allah your religion, and your trusts, and the last of your deeds (Astawdi`ullāha dīnaka wa amānataka wa khawātīma `amalik).

Dua of the Resident for the Traveller (2)

Arabic

زَوَّدَكَ اللَّهُ التَّقْوَى وَغَفَرَ ذَنْبَكَ وَيَسَّرَ لَكَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ

Transliteration
Zawwadak Allāhut-taqwā Wa ghafara dhanbak Wa yassara lakal-khaira ḥaithu mā kunt.
Translation
‘May Allah grant you Taqwa as your provision. And may He forgive your sin. And may He make goodness easy for you wherever you are.
 Reference: Anas said:
“A man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: ‘I intend to undertake a journey, so give me provision. He said: ‘May Allah grant you Taqwa as your provision (Zawwadak Allāhut-taqwā).’ He said: ‘Give me more.’ He said: ‘And may He forgive your sin (Wa ghafara dhanbak).’ He said: ‘Give me more, may my father be ransomed for you, and my mother.’ He said: ‘And may He make goodness easy for you wherever you are (Wa yassara lakal-khaira ḥaithu mā kunt).’”

Dua of Stopping and Lodging Somewhere while traveling

Arabic

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

Transliteration
A’ūdhu bikalimāti Allāh at-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq.
Translation
‘I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of that He created.
Reference: Khaula bint Hakim Sulamiyya reported:
I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you stays at a place, he should say:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of that He created.” Nothing would then do him any harm until he moves from that place. Abu Huraira reported that a person came to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) and said:” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) , I was stung by a scorpion during the night. Thereupon he said: Had you recited these words in the evening:” I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He created,” it would not have done any harm to you.

Arabic

 ‏اَللٰهُ اَكْبَر، اَللٰهُ اَكْبَر، ‏اَللٰهُ اَكْبَر، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ سَاجِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ، صَدَقَ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ وَهَزَمَ الأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَهُ

Transliteration
Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, lā ilāha illā Allāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu al-mulku, wa lahu al-ḥamdu, wa huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr, āyibūna tā’ibūna ‘ābidūna sājidūna lirabbinā ḥāmidūna, ṣadaqa Allāh wa’dahu wa naṣara ‘abdahu wa hazama al-aḥzāba waḥdahu.
Translation
Allah Greatest (3). None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; He is One and has no partner. All the kingdoms is for Him, and all the praises are for Him, and He is Omnipotent. We are returning with repentance, worshipping, prostrating, and praising our Lord. He has kept up His promise and made His slave victorious, and He Alone defeated all the clans of (nonbelievers).
Reference: Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:
Whenever Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) returned from a Ghazwa, Hajj or `Umra, he used to say Takbir thrice at every elevation of the ground and then would say, “None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; He is One and has no partner. All the kingdoms is for Him, and all the praises are for Him, and He is Omnipotent. We are returning with repentance, worshipping, prostrating, and praising our Lord. He has kept up His promise and made His slave victorious, and He Alone defeated all the clans of (nonbelievers).
